Lazio interested in Hannover 96 striker Mohammed Abdellaoue

Vladimir Petkovic believes that the Norwegian striker is the perfect player to bolster his attack ahead of the new Serie A campaign
Lazio manager Vladimir Petkovic has identified Hannover 96 striker Mohammed Abdellaoue as the ideal signing to partner Miroslav Klose up front.

The 26 year-old Norwegian had been linked with Swansea City, but it appears that Lazio are determined to land their man after target Burak Yilmaz moved from Trabzonspor to Galatasaray while Wolfsburg striker Patrick Helmes faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his cruciate ligaments.

Speaking to, Abdellaoue's agent Stig Lillejord refused to reveal which clubs were interested in his player. "I do not generally specify which clubs are interested," he said.

"Moa has played in the last two years in Germany to a top level. It is of course natural that perhaps he is one of the best strikers in Germany and as the Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in Europe, clubs are interested."

The former Valerenga star played 42 games for Hannover 96 last season, notching 16 goals, but he faces stiff competition from the likes of Mame Diouf, Didier Ya Konan and Jan Schlaudraff.

Hannover coach Mirko Somka recently claimed that it was "great" to have five top strikers available to him, but hinted that Abdellaoue could be for sale at the right price.

Lillejord emphasised that while his client is happy in Germany, he would be keen to one day ply his trade on a bigger stage: "He is happy in Hanover and still has a two year contract. But of course, Moa has ambitions. This is normal for players of his level.

For now, I refuse to make any statements about other clubs, whether [that be] Lazio or another club, but if there is interest, Moa will certainly listen to what they have to say."

Hannover face FC Nottingen in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Sunday.
