Nocerino proud to wear Gattuso's No.8 jersey
By Stefan Coerts
Aug 4, 2012 11:00:00 AM
The dynamic midfielder is flattered to have been awarded the AC Milan legend's number for the new season, and vows to repay the faith shown in him by his predecessor
Antonio Nocerino admits it is an honour to have been allocated AC Milan's No.8 jersey for the 2012-13 campaign, and is determined to prove he is a worthy heir to Gennaro Gattuso. The World Cup winner's number became available following his move to Sion earlier in the summer, and the former Palermo midfielder did not hesitate when given the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the 34-year-old.
"When we played the last match at San Siro against Novara, Rino told me he would be pleased if I took his old number, and that is what has happened," Nocerino told Milan Channel.
"I am happy because Rino is a dear friend, who last year helped me a lot. It is an important, historic shirt and I will do the best I can when wearing it."
Nocerino then reflected on his transfer to Milan from the Rosanero last year, and stressed he immediately felt at home at the San Siro side.
"This is no normal club. Last season after one week at Milanello I felt as if I had been at Milan for five or six years. This is a spirit that will never change."
Nocerino scored 10 Serie A goals for Milan in his first season at the club.
