Emanuelson: I have to improve this season
The 26-year-old Netherlands international is well aware that he must play with greater consistency and at a higher level if he is to become a Rossoneri regular
Urby Emanuelson has conceded that he must carry his impressive pre-season form into AC Milan's Serie A campaign. The Netherlands international arrived at San Siro during the January 2011 transfer window but he has yet to really establish himself as a regular in Massimiliano Allegri's starting lineup.
However, Emanuelson has been in good form during the Rossoneri's friendly matches, netting against both Schalke and Chelsea this week, and he is aware that the onus is on him to keep up his performances.
"I have to improve this season, perform better than I did last campaign," the Dutchman is quoted as saying by his club's official website.
"I have done well until now, having scored twice in as many matches and I want to keep it up. I feel good and having two seasons with Milan behind me already helps me."
Meanwhile, Emanuelson was buoyed by the Rossoneri's performance in the 1-0 win over Chelsea, taking particular satisfaction out of new signing Riccardo Montolivo's impressive debut.
"It was a good match for us," the versatile left-sided player mused. "We played well in defence and I am happy to have scored another goal.
"The team has benefited from the return of the Italy internationals, which is without doubt an advantage.
"Montolivo played in the centre of midfield, and he did it well. He impressed me: he keeps the ball well and is sure of himself."
Emanuelson, who has 15 Netherlands caps to his name, joined Milan from Ajax for a reported €1.7 million.
