Napoli are not going to Beijing, it is a crazy trip - De Laurentiis

The Partenopei supremo has stated that the Italian Super Cup is not worth a trip to China in the build-up to the new Serie A season, and refuses to play the game in Asia
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that his side will not be travelling to Beijing to participate in the Supercoppa Italiana. The game between the San Paolo club and Juventus is scheduled to be played in China, but the eccentric Naples-based supremo has refused to send his squad to Asia as he believes the long journey will affect his players in the long run.
"Why do we have to deal with a trip to the Far East in the midst of our preparation?" Il Corriere dello Sport quoted the 63-year-old as saying.
"No, Napoli are not going to Beijing. It's a crazy trip, an unnecessary stress.”
De Laurentiis is thought to have contacted Juventus president Andrea Agnelli to try and convince the Bianconeri to back him in boycotting the match, and has also make known his stance to Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri.
He also feels that the timing of the game is not appropriate and has questioned the importance of the fixture.
"Why do we need to go to China a few days before the start of the Serie A campaign?" he questioned. "And how important is the Super Cup? If we skip the game, tell me how much is the penalty!”
The match has been scheduled for Sunday, August 11.
