Conte: There is still more work to be done at Juventus before the Serie A season starts

The Bianconeri coach is focused on the new campaign despite the ongoing investigations into the Scommessopoli scandal, and has his eye on another summer signing
Juventus coach Antonio Conte is pleased with how his squad is shaping up, but he is still eager to add another player during the current transfer window.The Bianconeri won the Scudetto after finishing the 2011-12 Serie A season without a loss but he is not ready to rest on his laurels.
"I'm happy with the players who have joined us. There is perfect harmony within the squad, but there is still more work to be done, Conte said at a press conference.
The 42-year-old then heaped praise on new signing Lucio, who joined the Turin club from Inter on a free transfer.
"Lucio is a top player, and is a great professional who was immediately committed to our project."
Conte then touched on the ongoing investigation into the Scommessopoli scandal, saying: "It's an ugly affair. But even in the darkest and most painful moments I've always had great respect and great trust in who is conducting the investigation.
"I told the truth that I maintain was absolutely credible. In 42 years, my life has been credible. The club, the president and the fans know what kind of person I am. I’m calm and I cleared everything up, point by point.”
Conte also spoke about the influence that Alessandro Del Piero will continue to have on Juve despite the veteran player leaving the club at the end of last season.
"Del Piero will always be present with us,” Conte noted. “It is odd that he isn’t actually with us after so many years, as he, along with Gigi Buffon, were the historical elements of the squad.
“I thank him for what he did last season and in his entire career at Juventus. I wish him all of the luck in the world."

CG: Germany were granted four Champions League places at the end of the 2010-11 season, which led to Italy losing one spot. This came into effect at the start of the 2012-13 campaign.
When Italy lost their place, their Champions League record was so far superior to Germany whether you looked at the last two,three,five,10,20 or 30 years. Serie A boasted two of the previous four winners of the competition, whereas the Bundesliga hadn't won a European trophy of any sort since 2001 ...

CG: Bayern are clearly the favourites on paper. Individually and collectively they have the advantage, plus they have won two and drawn two out of their four meetings this season, so psychologically have the edge.
But, anything can happen in finals. The first goal will be crucial. If Bayern break the deadlock, it is hard to see them losing as they are so good at strangling the game and picking teams off. If Dortmund are to spring a surprise, I think they have to score first. If they manage that, then it will be interesting to see how Bayern react. They have developed a reputation as a team who bottle it on the big stage and fall at the final hurdle. Mentally, they seem a different proposition this year but falling behind could bring back all their bad memories and prove fatal.

CG: As we are in an odd-number year, with no World Cup or European Championship, it is certain that the victor of the Ballon D'Or will be an individual who stars solely for their club team. As a result, a Champions League winner has as good a chance as anyone to pick up the prestigious prize.
The gong usually goes to a midfielder or attacker, so my money would be on Franck Ribery if Bayern win the Champions League as he is the kind of player voters usually go for. Having said that, as Bayern and Dortmund are such outstanding 'teams', their inividuals aren't always in the spotlight like a Messi or Ronaldo, so that could count against them.

He has been a monster, and the ease with which he nullified the attacks of Juventus and Barcelona - even if the former is nothing to sing and dance about - was a head-turner. I'm looking forward to his battle with Lewandowski tonight.
