Zanetti: Inter want to fight for Scudetto again
The Argentina defender is desperate for the 2012-13 campaign to kick off, and stressed that he still feels in fine condition as he heads into his 18th season with the Nerazzurri
Javier Zanetti has insisted that Inter are determined to compete for the Serie A title again in the 2012-13 campaign. The Nerazzurri had to settle for sixth spot in the table last term after a disappointing season, and Zanetti can't wait for the new campaign to start in order to erase the bad memories of last year.
"We want to start off again as soon as possible and have a great season. The transfer market? We'll be a team with clear ideas and it is our firm intention to contend for the title. Our hope is to work well there because the coming season will be a busy one considering all of the competitions we'll be involved in," Zanetti stated to Sky Sport Italia.
"The Europa League is a prestigious competition and we'll have to be on our toes for the preliminary rounds.
"My age? In spite of that, to tell you the truth, I'm in good shape and want to do my bit for the team. I'll be the first to step down if I realise I can't keep up the pace. There's talk of a young team and I agree completely. Those of us who have more experience will be able to give the younger players a hand to improve."
The 38-year-old Zanetti has made over 700 appearances for Inter since joining them in 1995.
