Samuel: Palacio can make a difference at Inter

The Nerazzurri have signed the Argentine forward from Genoa, and his countryman feels their new arrival could give the Giuseppe Meazza side a much-needed boost next term

Walter Samuel is confident new Inter signing Rodrigo Palacio has what it takes to make an impact at the club next term.

The 30-year-old will join the Nerazzurri from Genoa during the close season, and his Argentine compatriot believes clinching the forward's signature will prove to be a shrewd piece of business.

"He will make the difference, he has shown that in Genoa and at Boca Juniors,” Samuel told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The veteran then struggled to explain why Inter failed under former coaches Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri, but praised defensive team-mate Andrea Ranocchia in the wake of his omission from Italy's provisional Euro 2012 squad.

"We took on board the ideas of Gasperini, we tried to follow him but the results did not arrive and we lost confidence," he continued.

“With Ranieri we had an amazing run of victories, but I cannot explain the decline in the last period of his management.

“Rannochia is a young man of worth, none of us has ever questioned his abilities,” the defender concluded.

Samuel recently penned a new one-year contract extension to keep him at the Giuseppe Meazza for another season.
