The Argentine is looking forward to next year after the Nerazzurri failed to win a trophy for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign

Javier Zanetti is eagerly anticipating the start of next season after Inter's first tough campaign in recent memory.

The Nerazzurri were unable to make an impact in the Champions League and Coppa Italia in 2011-12, while they currently sit only sixth in the Serie A table with one more game remaining.

"I can't wait for the start of next season. Now we have one game left and then we can look back over the last eight years. This is the first tough year we've had, having won everything over the last seven," Zanetti was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

"It might be that this moment was bound to come along sooner or later, and it all happened to us in the space of one season.

"Now everyone has it in their mind to go again, to change the way things are going, so that we can once again challenge for the positions that we've been accustomed to over the last few years."

Inter lock horns with Lazio in their last game of the season on Sunday, and still have an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League if all results go their way.
