The Argentina international is believed to have a €31 million buy-out clause in his current contract with Napoli, but Inter are hopeful of pushing the forward's price down, and will open talks with the Partenopei after the Coppa Italia final.
Napoli lock horns with Juventus on May 20, and Inter do not want to disrupt their preparations for the showpiece in Rome.
Lavezzi joined Napoli from San Lorenzo in the summer of 2007, and has since developed into a key player for the Serie A side.
