Juventus have announced that the Italian player will not take part in the title run-in as he picked up a muscular injury to his thigh on Wednesday
Juventus coach Antonio Conte was dealt a blow on Friday as it was confirmed that Paolo De Ceglie will not be fit enough to play the final two games of the Serie A season, against Cagliari and Atalanta, because of an injury picked up in the 1-1 draw against Lecce.
The Bianconeri remain top of the league, boasting a slender one point over rivals AC Milan, and the 25-year-old has been a regular fixture in the side, making 21 league appearances, scoring one goal.
The player was injured against Lecce, as confirmed by the reports published on the official website of Juventus. “Defender Paolo De Ceglie, was forced off at the beginning of the match against Lecce because of muscular discomfort," a statement read.
Tests were conducted the next morning at the Institute of Sports Medicine of Turin. The Juventus website states that the results "showed a lesion on the muscle of the left thigh”, meaning that he is not fit enough to help his side win their first official title since 2003.
Juventus travel to Cagliari on Sunday.
