Cassano: I was afraid of dying

The 29-year-old forward admitted that he considered hanging up his boots before undergoing heart surgery but went on to reveal that he is ready to play again
AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano said he feared for his life after falling ill on the flight home following the Rossoneri's 3-2 win over Roma on October 29.

The Italy international has been out of action ever since, but was recently given the go-ahead to resume his playing career earlier in the week.

"I was afraid of dying, and then past that, I thought about retiring from football," he told Studio Sport.

However, Cassano is entering the final stages of his recovery and even took part in a training game against Milan's youth team on Wednesday.

"Now I am ready to return, perhaps on Saturday against Fiorentina," Cassano noted.

The former Roma and Real Madrid striker has scored two goals in nine Serie A appearances for Milan this season.
