Heinze close to Roma contract renewal - report

The Argentine's current contract expires at the end of the season, but he is expected to earn a one-year renewal if he activates a clause in his agreement
Roma defender Gabriel Heinze is on the verge of a contract renewal as the former Manchester United man will be given a one-year extension to his current deal once he plays his 25th game for the Giallorossi, Il Corriere dello Sport reports.

Heinze, who joined Roma from Olympique de Marseille ahead of the 2011-12 campaign, has so far made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A outfit, and is expected to feature in his 25th game on Monday when they host Genoa in the league.

The 33-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season, but he will likely earn himself a new deal until June 2013 next week due to a clause in his current agreement.

Heinze reportedly earns €1.2 million per year at Roma at present, and will continue under the same terms next season.
