Roma director Franco Baldini has revealed that coach Luis Enrique has been offered a contract extension.
The Spaniard endured a difficult start to life in the Italian capital but the Giallorossi’s form has improved dramatically over the past month and they currently stand seventh in Serie A, with a game in hand.
Consequently, Roma are now keen for the former Barcelona B team coach to commit himself to a new deal.
“Right from the start we wanted to do a longer program with him,” Baldini is quoted as saying by Il Romanista during a dinner for the AIRC.
“He wanted to wait to see the impact of Italian football and to be fully satisfied [before he committed].
“The extension was offered because of his good work.”
Roma are also currently hoping that influential midfielder Daniele De Rossi will sign a new deal with the club, with his existing contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Negotiations, it seems, have reached a critical point and Baldini was reluctant to give too much away on the issue.
“We are treating this game with care it requires and will also give it the time it requires,” he revealed.
After seeing last Saturday’s Serie A clash with Catania abandoned, Roma return to league action this weekend with a home game against Cesena.
