AC Milan's Adriano Galliani: We might have lost the derby, but we're still five points ahead of Inter in the table
The Rossoneri CEO has downplayed the importance of Sunday's derby defeat to their arch-rivals, and stressed that it's all about the standings rather than individual games
AC Milan director Adriano Galliani has stressed that despite Sunday's 1-0 Serie A loss to Inter, the Rossoneri still hold a five-point lead over their arch-rivals in the table.A single Diego Milito strike in the second half gave Inter maximum points in Sunday's Derby della Madonnina, but Galliani was quick to downplay the importance of the encounter.
"It was clear that whoever scored was going to win. We’re still five points ahead of Inter. though, and only a point from the top. Between Inter’s 32 points and Juve’s 38 points, there are five teams," Galliani was quoted as saying on the club's official website.
"What counts is the table. It’s impartial and with 20 games left, it says Milan are five points ahead of Inter.
"It was a game that would have given us the top spot in the league but we didn’t do it. Other results however mean that we’re only a point from the top. Three points against Inter are the same as the three points against Cagliari or Novara."
Milan's next match is the Coppa Italia game at home versus Novara on Wednesday at 21.00CET.
