AC Milan's Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo will miss both the team's Serie A and Champions League starts after he was ruled out for a month with a sprained ankle.
Taiwo sustained the injury in Milan's 2-1 Luigi Berlusconi Trophy win over Juventus on Sunday night. and the Giuseppe Meazza-based giants have now confirmed the extent of his injury, adding there has been damage to ligaments.
A statement on the club's official website reads: "Taiwo he has sprained his left ankle but initial tests have excluded any damage to the bones although he has some damage to his ligaments. He will be out around 30 days."
It's a blow to coach Massimiliano Allegri who also has Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Mathieu Flamini, Mark Van Bommel and Kevin-Prince Boateng also on the sidelines.
What is certain is that Taiwo will be absent from Milan's Serie A kick-off against Cagliari this weekend, as well as the start of the Champions League group stages.
