The custodian is delighted with the way he and his team-mates are preparing for the new season and is also happy to have Ibrahimovic and Cassano back from holidayAC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia is relishing the chance to take on city rivals Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana in China next month.
The Italian champions will face last season’s Coppa Italia winners in the Super Cup. The one-off encounter will be held at the National Stadium in Beijing and both teams have begun their pre-season training camp in an effort to triumph in the derby match.
Amelia is already looking forward to the first Derby della Madonnina of the new season, and in an interview with Milan Channel, remarked: “We are working towards the first real matches and that will give us a real idea of how we can approach the Supercup, which is important.
“Before that though the coach and the club have organised a whole series of friendlies, starting with the match against Solbiate and then finishing with the tournament [Audi Cup] in Munich.
“These friendlies will help us prepare properly for the match against Inter, a game we must win because we really want to continue our positive streak in the derbies.”
The 29-year-old added that the return of striking talent to the squad will assist preparations, stating: “We are happy that [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Antonio [Cassano] are back at Milanello, they deserved their holidays and now they'll start working with the rest of us and they will give us a hand in preparing the Supercup.
“They want to do really well and Antonio was very enthusiastic this morning [Monday], which is positive. Now we have to continue working towards that game in Beijing.”
