AC Milan in talks for Standard Liege's Axel Witsel - report
Reports from Belgium suggest that the Italian outfit's CEO Adriano Galliani met with Liege chiefs to discuss a possible move for the impressive international youngster
AC Milan have started talks with Standard Liege for the transfer of midfielder Axel Witsel, according to a report from Belgium. The 22-year-old, who scored 10 goals in 37 games last term, could arrive to strengthen the Rossoneri's midfield following Andrea Pirlo's recent switch to Juventus.
Rtbf.be reports Liege vice president Luciano D'Onofrio held talks with Milan CEO Adriano Galliani on Tuesday over a possible transfer.
Massimiliano Allegri has suggested he wants to bolster the squad as they aim to challenge for the Champions League next term, having lifted the Scudetto this year.
But Witsel is likely to come at a price. Suggestions from Belgium centre around a €15 million bid.
Meanwhile, Italian agent Mino Raiola has reacted to reports linking Napoli's Marek Hamsik with the San Siro outfit once again.
Last week Galliani said Hamsik was not a summer transfer objective, but Raiola was less clear when speaking to Sky Sport Italia.
He said: "Ask Milan if Hamsik fits their bill. We will see what his future [holds]."
