Axel Witsel could be on his way out of Belgian cup winners Standard Liege as Serie A side Fiorentina have shown an interest in signing the midfielder, Il Corriere dello Sport Stadio reports.
The Florence club are keen to add some fresh blood to their squad after a disappointing 2010-11 campaign, where they finished ninth in the league table.
With the expected departure of Riccardo Montolivo, the capture of a new central player is Fiorentina's primary objective and they consider the 22-year-old to be the perfect addition to their ranks.
Witsel is a product of the Standard Liege youth academy and has developed into a key player since making his official debut in September 2006.
His current contract runs until 2015, but he has a verbal agreement with Liege that he will be allowed to move on if a good offer arrives this summer.
He has previously been linked with clubs such as AC Milan and Bayern Munich, and now Fiorentina's name has been added to his list of admirers.
