Highly-rated wing-back Reto Ziegler appears to be on his way out of Serie A side Sampdoria as fellow Italian outfit Lazio have shown an interest in signing the Switzerland international, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
The Eagles are eager to add a new left-back to their squad and first expressed an interest in signing Ziegler during the January transfer window, but the 25-year-old then opted to stay at the Luigi Ferraris until the end of the season.
Lazio won't give up on their man, though, and are now believed to be on the verge of signing Ziegler on a Bosman deal. Both parties have allegedly already agreed terms and the player's signature is all that is missing.
Ziegler started his professional career with Grasshopper and also wore the jerseys of Tottenham, Hamburg and Wigan Athletic before joining Sampdoria in January 2007.
The defender has also been linked with Bundesliga sides Werder Bremen and Schalke, but it appears to be a matter of time before a move to Lazio is completed.
