Roma coach Claudio Ranieri tested out Marco Borriello up front in training at Trigoria on Thursday, suggesting the former Genoa striker will start their match against Cagliari, according to sport.it.

The 28-year-old joined the Giallorossi on loan from Milan, with the club having the option to purchase him at the end of the season, and is expected to make his first appearance for the Lupi at the Stadio Sant'Elia on Saturday evening. He bagged 14 goals in Serie A for the Rossoneri in 2009-10.

'The Tinkerman' used a 4-4-2 formation with Borriello and captain Francesco Totti up front, while Mirko Vucinic played as a winger on the left hand side.

Another summer signing, Paolo Castellini will take over for the injured John Arne Riise at left-back, who suffered a concussion. Meanwhile, Philippe Mexes should partner Juan in central defence.

Roma began their Serie A campaign with a 0-0 draw versus Cesena at the Stadio Olimpico before the international break.
