The Biancocelesti have told the press the player is suffering from an injury to his left thigh caused by muscle fatigue and will continue to be evaluated over the next 24 hours.
The 28-year-old joined the club last winter on loan, scoring eight goals to help them avoid relegation before securing a permanent move from Genoa in the summer.
On a more positive note, knocks to midfielders Matuzalem and Christian Brocchi's do not appear to be serious and both players should be available for coach Edy Reja in the immediate future.
The club began their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 loss to Sampdoria in late August.
