Roma are considering approaching UEFA in an attempt to slash Julio Baptista's wages, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

Relations between club and player have become stilted after he refused a transfer during the summer window.

Baptista rejected the chance to join a number of sides who were keen on landing him from Roma who were eager to sell.

However, he remained, much to the discontent of Rosella Sensi who is expected to call Michel Platini directly over imposing a reduction on Baptista's pay.

Meanwhile, the countdown to the sale of the club had begun in Rome. Lawyers from the Rothschild group, hired by Unicredit to find a buyer, will meet on Friday.

They are expected to discuss interest which emerged in July when Italpetroli relinquished its assets including Roma to Unicredit as part of a debt settlement plan.

Pharmaceutical magnate Francesco Angelini, and Arab investment group Aabar have been linked with the Lupi's acquisition.
