Cagliari president Massimo Cellino has ruled a line through goalkeeper Federico Marchetti for this season, saying he will not have a spot in the Rossoblu's starting XI.

The 27-year-old made it known that he wanted to leave the club during the recent transfer window, but could not come to an agreement with any side.

"I am worried that I cannot use him at Cagliari this season because of what he has said to the media," Cellino revealed to Sky Sport 24. "In football, these stupidities you can pay for, and they can ruin your career at the height of it.

"I have always considered him a great goalkeeper, but he was unable to find a new home during this transfer season. There is, though, the January transfer market.

"He will have to train hard, demonstrating to others his qualities because he is a professional."

Manchester City and Chelsea are reportedly also watching over the Italian international, who featured at the 2010 World Cup in the absence of Gianluigi Buffon.
