Catania Director Pietro Lo Monaco: I Should Have Sold Our Top Players
Pietro Lo Monaco has admitted that they made a mistake by not selling their best players.

“[We] made a mistake in not selling our big players. I am convinced I made a mistake, because I had the chance to sell players worth a total of €50 million," he said to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli. "A club as small as ours cannot afford to keep players and must renew constantly.
“We had done well and wanted to see this squad together for another year, so I lost sight of the objectives of a club like ours. What’s worth €50m in today’s market could be €25m next season.”
He then gave his opinion on the transfer activities in Italy this summer.
"It was an entertaining summer of transfers with important buys, Milan first of all with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho have become one of the prime candidates for the Scudetto.
“Genoa did very well, as did Napoli. Juve need to be verified properly, but they made some good signings.”
Lo Monaco went on to speak about the one that got away for Catania.
“In truth we had got him [midfielder Jose Sosa] and agreed the deal with Bayern Munich, but problems arose over his very expensive wages. He seemed to agree to our terms, but then another Italian club intercepted and it all collapsed.
“Napoli were also interested in Maxi Lopez, but decided to spend more or less the same amount on Edinson Cavani from Palermo.”-
