The Spaniard is in the dark...
The 19-year-old is set to join ambitious Premier League club Manchester City this week, with more clarification on the forward's future to be announced on Monday. Balotelli sat out Inter's 3-0 demolition of the Citizens on Saturday evening in the Pirelli Cup in Baltimore but Benitez says that it was because of an injury and not because of any other reason.
The former Liverpool manager is quoted as saying by Inter's official website: “Balotelli didn’t play because he has a muscular problem. I don’t know the transfer situation as I am only the coach of Inter.”
Benitez also expressed his delight at the scoreline and said that they exhibited good football against Man City.
“I am very happy with the work done by the squad. We did everything we wanted to do and we did it well. I’m pleased for [Victor] Obinna and [Cristiano] Biraghi who, despite being left-footed, scored a fantastic goal with his right.
“We’re also so happy to feel the affection of the fans. We think that we gave them some good football and our objective is to keep doing that in the next friendly games.”
He added: “Manchester City played aggressively, but that was useful for Inter, as we need that to improve our fitness levels at this stage.
“It is always better to win, even in a friendly. We were organised, got off to a strong start and when we had the extra man knew how to take advantage of the situation.”
