The transfer of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Veloso from Sporting CP to Genoa is almost complete, A Bola has reported on Thursday evening.

It is suggested that only the gilding is required to complete the deal, which is expected to see the 24-year-old holding midfield player sign a four-year contract with the Rossoblu.

In total the deal will cost the Serie A outfit in the region of €14 million, but it is not simply a case of handing a cheque over to the Lisbon club. Genoa will pay a fee of around €6m plus they will give Sporting a ready-made replacement in the form of Alberto Zapater, who featured 28 times in league play for the Italian club last term. Zapater is also expected to sign a four-year contract.

Veloso has long been linked with a move away from Portugal and now it seems that a switch away from his homeland is inevitable for the talented 24-year-old. The deal has been of the on-off variety for several weeks, so it would be no massive surprise if there was a twist or two left in the story.
