Inter have upscaled their demands for Maicon by telling Real Madrid they will have to pay €6 million and send them Xabi Alonso as part of the deal.
Il Corriere dello Sport adds that Florentino Perez is keen on the idea as he wants to close negotiations quickly following the arrival of Angel Di Maria from Benfica.
Rafael Benitez sees the Spanish playmaker as an alternative to Javier Mascherano, who remains a priority signing. The coach wants to reunite with Alonso after enjoying successful times with him at Liverpool, winning the 2005 Champions League against Inter's historic rivals Milan.
It's now up to Jose Mourinho to decide whether he can afford to sacrifice his midfielder for Maicon.
Previous reports suggested the deal had been stuck on a transfer fee. Inter wanted €35m for Maicon, but it seems the inclusion of Alonso could settle the argument for both teams and help negotiations reach a conclusion.
