Italy hopeful Alessandro Del Piero has said the Azzurri can win the World Cup, but he has outlined the difficulties of retaining the trophy won in 2006.

"Italy victorious once again? It's very difficult. They would need to be perfect during that month and a half," he told Juventus Channel.

"But Italy has the potential to do it."

The Juventus captain has also welcomed the idea of playing in South Africa, but he is aware the dividing line is a sharp one.

"Being called up is a consequence of what one does in the league," he added.

"My focus is on my team. Then, I hope the coach [Marcello Lippi] makes the best choices for Italy, and I hope to be part of that."

Del Piero has made it clear his side need to press for fourth place with the hope of securing Champions League football next season.

"Our objective is fourth and we have the will to reach it," he continued.

"It's not easy, but we are working for it."
