Lazio President Claudio Lotito Under Investigation Over Mauro Zarate & Julio Cruz Transfers - Report
Lotito faces a ban from the game after allegedly breaking transfer rules...
By Salvatore Landolina
Covisoc, which is the FIGC (Italian FA) body that monitors club budgets, and the federal prosecutor Stefano Palazzi have opened an investigation regarding a commission of €14.95 million which was paid to Pluriel Ltd when Zarate signed his contract.
The authorities believe the sum is disproportionate to the transfer and they are currently looking into the way the deal was handled by Lazio, and whether they followed strict guidelines. The free transfer of Julio Cruz from Inter has also come under the microscope after Lotito paid a Dutch company €2.15m in commission.
Investigators allege that Lazio have violated statutory right management rules in relation to the money they paid in commission over the mediation of the deals.
Furthermore, Lazio are alleged to have ignored articles 2 and 3 of the FIFA players agents code by using unauthorised parties to procure the transfers, which also infringes article 10 of the sports justice code.
Lazio do not face a points deduction, but rather heavy administrative penalties. Lotito himself is likely to be handed a ban from the game if Covisoc find he has a case to answer.
