Juventus forward Vincenzo Iaquinta has revealed the full extent of a prolonged injury nightmare that has kept him sidelined for over four months.

The Italian international last featured for Juve in a league match with Fiorentina back in October and looks set to make his comeback against the Gigliati this weekend after a painstakingly slow recovery from knee surgery.

“I had this operation on the outer meniscus,” he explained to Tuttosport newspaper.

“But during the procedure, the doctors became aware of other problems in my knee.

“I was under anaesthetic and I didn’t understand right away. Afterwards, the doctors told me that unfortunately the recovery time would be longer.

“When I came out of the operating room, I knew that I would not have got away with the 40 days of recovery time they had initially estimated.”

Juventus’ season went by the wayside during Iaquinta’s absence, crashing out of the Champions League and the Coppa Italia and slipping down the Serie A standings.

“It was tough, I could have gone insane sometimes,” he admitted.

“Particularly when I saw Juve struggling and I could not give a hand to my team-mates.

“It was bad, really bad. But luckily [Alberto] Zaccheroni came in and we got back to winning ways.

“I have worked hard, having double training sessions for a month and a half, and now want to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League to get some payback.”
