Doria’s director of football praised the match officials for a bold display towards a fiery Nerazzurri...

With Inter refusing to comment in the wake of a nervous 0-0 draw, Sampdoria’s director of football Beppe Marotta defended the referee as he urged for calm shortly after the game.

“I think we should be a little calmer in future,” he declared to Sky Sports.

“Looking at the game of referee Tagliavento, I don’t think anyone can have any real complaints at the decisions taken. Even the double booking of [Giampaolo] Pazzini was a fair one and I see no reason as to why I should start complaining about the officials.

“Although I am a little bitter at the fact we didn’t capitalise on our numerical advantage, this is still a positive result given we held a side of Inter’s stature in their own back yard.

“We did try to push on, but the Nerazzurri deserve full merit for an extraordinary display at the back which kept us at bay when the game seemed to have swung in our favour.”
