Claudio Lotito has said nothing but hard work will pull Lazio out of the relegation zone.

Lotito, who has sacked Davide Ballardini and replaced him with Edy Reja, wants to see a response from his players, and has asked them to make an extra effort.

"In order to get out of this situation we need to work, work and work," he told Il Messaggero.

"The expectations were not respected and although our position in the league is poor, it does not reflect the value of the team.

"I have put in plenty of money and made initiatives that will remain in history."

Lazio's problems were underlined further when a thousand fans clashed with police on Tuesday, leaving three people needing hospital treatment for cuts and bruises.

"The protest? That was instrumental and planned," he concluded.
