Philippe Mexes: Roma Can Go Far
‘Rugantino’ says the Giallorossi have finally rediscovered their battling spirit…
By Vince Masiello
“We had to weather the storm,” he told Roma Channel after the match.
“That was our flaw until recently and we would have lost this clash 3-0. We showed we are a compact group and these three points were crucial.
“With this spirit, we can go far. How far? Game after game we’ll give our all to remain up there.”
Roma are undefeated in 19 games in all competitions and had to thank goalkeeper Julio Sergio for a superb string of saves before Mirko Vucinic hit a late winner.
“You need a bit of luck, but you must look for it,” smiled the ex-Auxerre man.
“That’s football: when things go bad for you, no-one lets you get anything. But we have now found consistency.”
Roma have moved into second in the league table and will host fellow Champions League hopefuls Palermo at the Olimpico next weekend.
