Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder has apologised for his sending off in the city derby against AC Milan this past Sunday.The player was given a straight red card for ironically clapping in the face of referee Gianluca Rocchi after a decision the former Real Madrid man did not agree with and was later handed a two-match ban by the Lega Calcio.
"It was a really stupid gesture on my part," he stated through his own website, sneijderofficial.com.
"I damaged the whole team and myself by this action. I have learned my lesson."
The Dutchman was sent off mid-way through the first-half, leaving his team with a numerical disadvantage for 70 minutes. However, Inter still managed to win the clash against their city rivals and extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points.
