Palermo Ace Fabrizio Miccoli Relishing Duel With Sampdoria Star Antonio Cassano

Miccoli says ‘Fantantonio’ is one of his closest friends, but insists he is only focused on conquering Marassi.

Palermo captain Fabrizio Miccoli can’t wait to face off with fellow striker Antonio Cassano this afternoon as the Rosanero pay visit to Sampdoria in Serie A action.

“I haven’t heard from him recently, but he is a close friend of mine,” Miccoli said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Still, this does not change anything about our rapport or my opinion of him.

“Then again, I don’t care if I score more goals than Cassano. It is fairly pointless at this stage of the season. The stakes are high here and I am only focused on Palermo getting all three points.

“It is a delicate clash and the first one of 2010. It will be tough, but we firmly believe in a European qualification bid.”

Palermo sit in seventh place in the table, one point clear of Sampdoria and two adrift of a spot in next season’s Champions League.
