Emilson Cribari may be Siena's first signing during the transfer window - coming across from Lazio - but the 29-year-old is under no illusion what lies ahead.

The defender knows that all his experience will be needed - if he is to help the side that he signed a six-month loan - to stay in Italian to-flight football.

"I have arrived at Siena with the right attitude to do well," Cribari said to Novantesimo.it. "After five years at Lazio, I needed to find another team that had faith in my abilities.

"The society really wanted me, and I know that the coach [Alberto Malesani] believes in what I do.

"I will put at the club's disposal all of my experience and knowledge, as we need to fight to survive."

According to the stopper, Malesani has not let him know whether he will make his Siena debut against city rivals Fiorentina, or be held off until Sunday's encounter against league leaders Inter.

"I am available to play, as I am physically well," he affirmed.

"But the coach has not yet told me whether I will play or not.

"The match against Fiorentina is a very important match for the city.

"The people get into it, and we will give it our best to get a positive result."

Cribari also gave us an insight into why he was brought across from Lazio, and what he will bring to the team.

"I spoke to him [Malesani] at length, and he has told me of my responsibilities," added the defender.

"He is a man of few words, and believes that the matches I play speak on my behalf.

"I can guarantee my utmost best, and to take this new challenge with professionalism.

"I came to Siena because I want to win this challenge with my new team-mates, and avoid relegation alongside them.

"I am positive that we can do this," Cribari concluded.
