Cagliari's Alessandro Matri Ready To Surpass Luigi Riva's Goalscoring Record
One more goal against Roma would see the Isolani hitman overtake 'Rombo di Tuono' for the amount of goals scored in consecutive matches...
Matri currently sits equal with Legend Luigi Riva, having scored in eight consecutive matches. Should the Isolani forward get past goalkeepers Julio Sergio or Doni (depending on who Giallorossi coach Claudio Ranieri selects), he will hold the record himself.
"I can never compare myself to the Great Luigi Riva," Matri said to Cagliaricalcio.net as quoted by Goal.com Italia. "Having reached his record is of great satisfaction.
"But records were made to be beaten, and I will try my best to do so. 2009 was an important and decisive year for my career - the numbers speak for themselves.
"I hope that we can continue to play at the level we have, and to reach 40 points as soon as possible, so we are safe from relegation."
The Sardinian outfit find themselves in 13th place, on 23 points, only five points behind fourth-placed Roma.
