Brazilian midfielder Emerson has rescinded his contract with the Serie A giants by mutual consent. The 33-year-old has only been a peripheral figure at the club this season.
A statement on the official Milan website explained that his contract has been terminated.
"AC Milan announces that the player, Emerson Ferreira Da Rosa, has successfully applied to resolve his contract with immediate effect, because of personal reasons," explained the release.
"We thank him for his experience demonstrated during his time as a Rossonero and Milan wishes him the best in the future."
The former Brazil international arrived in Milan in 2007, after just one season with Real Madrid. However, since joining the Italian outfit he has not been able to secure a place in the starting XI, only making 35 appearances over two season, with a majority of them being from the substitutes bench.
The former Roma, Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen player has yet to reveal any plans for the future and due to his age, it is conceivable he could retire from football altogether.
