Fiorentina midfielder Riccardo Montolivo has reacted to the banner erected by angry fans in protest at the 3-1 defeat by Udinese on Sunday.

Supporters from the Curva Fiesole have made their feelings known to the players for failing to move close to the Champions League places. Montolivo understands why the fans have been left upset, but he feels the team has what it takes to turn things around against Roma this weekend.

"I can understand the sadness of the fans," Motolivo told FirenzeViola.it.

"The game was a bad one, but these players including myself have always shown great respect and professionalism for the shirt.

"All this is part of the game. The fans are annoyed like we are, and they have shown us this via the banner."

Montolivo admits the team will use the frustration as motivation to do better in their next fixture which could be a Champions League place decider when they welcome the Giallorossi.

"We will transform this criticism as an inspiration for Saturday. We will take all this into account. The team has to be united and compact because we have a decisive game awaiting us," concluded the Italian.
