Botafogo Fans Protest As Ronaldinho Stays With Milan - Report
Ronaldinho's ambition to stay at Milan has angered Botafogo fans who were misled into thinking he was going to join them, according to reports...
Sportmediaset.it reports hundreds of angry fans turned against club officials in response to a lack of strong signings. Tension mounted as fans vented their frustration, displaying banners against the club. One banner read: "We will go to Serie B with these players." Another noted: "They have spoken about Ronaldinho, so why don't they give him to us."
The heated reaction came after fans discovered there was no chance Ronaldinho would join the club, just days after a number of people close to the player's brother and agent Roberto De Assis claimed a deal would go ahead.
"Botafogo made a formal bid, which was bold and feasible," transfer consultant Mauro Azevedo claimed just before Christmas.
"It's all black and white, so this isn't just a rumour. Assis himself is clearly happy with it and I think that it can go ahead."
However, Ronaldinho claimed his aims were to win the Champions League with Milan and stay there for some time. That response angered the fans, leading to violent scenes at the Brazilian club's headquarters, where president Mauricio Assumpcao came under heavy fire.
