Fiorentina Director Pantaleo Corvino: Juventus? No Thanks

The transfer guru has insisted he would never turn his back on the Viola to join their bitter rivals.

Fiorentina director of sport Pantaleo Corvino maintains he has no plans to leave the club even if Serie A giants Juventus knock on his door.

Juve are struggling to reclaim their perch in Italian football following the Calciopoli scandal and their subsequent demotion to Serie B.

The work of young sporting director Alessio Secco has come under the microscope in recent weeks after the Bianconeri crashed out of the Champions League and fell nine points behind leaders Inter in Serie A despite a lavish summer transfer campaign.

Secco could be sacked next June and Corvino is reportedly a prime target to restore the club to its former glory, but the 60-year-old told L’Unita: “I am staying here. I have had five presidents during my 30-year career.

“I wanted them to get attached to me and to the club. I didn’t want them to run away oppressed by debts.”

Fiorentina sold Felipe Melo to Juve for a fee of €25 million last summer, but the Brazilian has failed to live up to his billing in Turin.

“Melo is a great holding midfielder,” explained Corvino. “I unearthed him at Almeria and he was perfect because he ruled in the middle thanks to his physical presence.

“But he is not a playmaker. Diego must do that at Juve.”
