Napoli have joined Juventus in the race to sign Cristian Ledesma from Lazio during the January transfer window.

Ledesma is seeking to rescind his contract through the authorities, following in the footsteps of Goran Pandev. The Macedonian striker broke his contract officially on Wednesday when the Lega Calcio accepted his request to leave the club.

The Argentinian midfielder is now waiting for a decision after submitting his case on Monday. He hopes for the same result as Pandev, but will have to wait until mid-January before learning his fate.

In anticipation of a positive result for Ledesma, Il Corriere Dello Sport claim Napoli are hovering in the background and are ready to pounce. The Azzurri's hopes for Ledesma are likely to be tested by Juventus, who are also on standby.

Claudio Lotito has already invited bids from a number of clubs. The chief is keen not to lose Ledesma on a free transfer as he did with Pandev and wants to sell him before the authorities make a decision.

"Napoli want Ledesma? What's the problem. They just need to come forward so we can understand if they have the will to make the move," he said.
