Calcio Stat Attack: Juventus Lose To Catania For The First Time In 46 Years

Goal.com's Italy team have been crunching numbers so you don't have to...

San Siro stadium
Welcome to our statistical round-up for week 17 in Serie A. Heavy snowfall caused major disruption to many of the games. The big Saturday kick off between Fiorentina and Milan was postponed. Bologna – Atalanta, GenoaBari and Udinese – Cagliari also fell victim to the adverse weather conditions in much of northern Italy.

The last time a Serie A game was cancelled due to frosty conditions was in 2001 when the fixture between Chievo and Lazio at the Bentegodi was called off by authorities.

Juventus 1-2 Catania

The trouble continues at Vinovo. This was their fifth loss in six games. You have to go back to the 1998/99 season to see a similar negative trend. This was Catania’s first win at Juve since 1963. Since then they had lost five and drawn two in their seven visits to Turin

Livorno 3-1 Sampdoria

The Amaranto have now beaten ‘Doria in three successive meetings at the Armando Picchi. Lithuanian striker Tomas Danilevicius grabbed his first ever Serie A brace. The slide continues for Luigi Del Neri’s outfit. They have now lost four of their last five fixtures. Antonio Cassano scored for his side, having previously not hit the net since August 30.

Napoli 2-0 Chievo

Napoli continue to scale new heights. Marek Hamsik’s penalty and Fabio Quagliarella’s strike saw the Azzurri pick up their 10th positive result on the bounce, equalling a record set under Luis De Menezes Vinicio in 1975. Chievo have now lost six of their last seven matches against Napoli. Hamsik’s penalty is the fifth that has gone against them this term, a new season record.

Palermo 1-0 Siena

Edinson Cavani’s winner sees the Rosanero close in further on the European places with their third consecutive victory. Palermo are now unbeaten at the Renzo Barbera since March 1st when they lost the Derby di Sicilia 4-0 to Catania. The Orobici have not won a game since week two when they won away to Cagliari. Since then they have lost seven times.

Roma 2-0 Parma

Claudio Ranieri’s men are now unbeaten in 10 matches across the Serie A and Europa League platforms with eight wins and two draws. Parma have not won at the Stadio Olimpico since 1997. Since then they have lost 14 and drawn 4.

Inter 1-0 Lazio

Samuel Eto’o scored his eighth goal of the season after latching onto Dejan Stankovic’s assist. The result means the Nerazzurri have gone the whole of 2009 unbeaten at home in Serie A. Lazio have now lost all of their last five visits at the San Siro against Inter. They did beat Inter this year though, the 2009 Super Coppa Italiana which was played in Beijing ended 2-1 to the Aquile.
