Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini Ready To Swoop For Sampdoria Ace Antonio Cassano - Report
Reports in Italy claim the upshot of Mancini's appointment at Eastlands will see Cassano follow him...
Sampdoria striker Antonio Cassano is the first name on newly-appointed Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini's transfer hitlist.
According to Sportal.it, the Citizens boss, who will be unveiled by the club on Monday evening, is making plans to sign 'Il Talentino' from the Blucerchiati.
It's no secret 'Mancio' was keen on Cassano when he coached Inter, but his efforts were futile and was never able to bring him in.
The report suggests that City's grandiose spending schemes could see Mancini receive the golden goose with cash to spend in January, fuelling speculation that he will ponder a bid for the Italian hot-shot.
Samp have always maintained their man is not for sale and they have slapped a €25 million price tag on his head. But, they could be tempted in light of a mega offer from Eastlands.
Mancini has been tasked to deliver a Champions League place for the club, and if he succeeds, it is believed that it will appeal to Cassano. Following a bright start, Samp have begun to slide down the table. That, plus an all-too-certain non appearance at the World Cup could prompt the striker to jump at the chance of a new experience.
Six weeks ago Cassano had threatened to turn his back and walk out on the club after he was booed by the fans.
