Lazio coach Davide Ballardini was philosophical after his side ended 2009 with a 1-0 defeat against Inter thanks to Samuel Eto'o's goal at sub-zero San Siro.

The Biancocelesti have won only one of their last 15 league fixtures, and Ballardini knows that the capital club have nobody but themselves to blame.

“This is Lazio, and the points total we have now is what we have deserved,” the tactician told Sky Sport Italia after the game. “We have difficulties at the moment, but these are difficulties we will overcome together.”

The Aquile have been linked with Argentine star Maxi Lopez in the Italian media over the past few days and there have been reports that a deal is already done, but Ballardini was non-committal regarding talk of the Gremio attacker.

“I have spoken with president [Claudio] Lotito at the end of the game about what we have to do in the transfer market. The signing of Maxi Lopez? Nothing is official.”
