Player Ratings: Inter 1-0 Lazio
The rundown on who did what as Inter went eight points clear for Christmas.
INTER
Julio Cesar: 6 – Had to be watchful rather than brilliant as Lazio failed to produce true goal-scoring opportunities with any regularity.
Maicon: 6 – Got forward just as much as usual, but didn't quite get into the crossing or shooting positions he's so well known for. Not overly stretched defensively.
Cordoba: 6.5 – Made one crucial stop from Rocchi, though it wasn't clear how much he knew about it. Generally provides great solidity to the Inter back-line... especially when they're up against a lone striker.
Lucio: 7.5 – Typically brave at the back and also a threat when driving forward. Stood out as the one player who really wanted to run his way through the cold, getting absolutely everywhere defensively.
Zanetti: 6 – Despite looking out of place at full-back these days thanks to his ageing legs, he held is own against a sprightly Lichtsteiner.
Muntari: 5.5 – Failed to get into the game before being withdrawn early after pulling his hamstring.
Cambiasso: 6.5 – Had one great free kick effort which had Muslera worried and generally got on with his usual job of bossing the midfield when in possession.
Motta: 6 – Never got on top of the midfield battle, despite having time and space to create opportunities for the forward three.
Stankovic: 6.5 – He's no Wesley Sneijder when it coms to being a trequartista, but he did provide a perfectly judged cross for Eto'o to open the scoring and attackd with trademark force.
Eto'o: 7 – Scored the opener at the second attempt and was narrowly wide with a couple of other efforts.
Milito: 6 – Created a chance for himself in the first half with a great turn, but should have done better when set free in the second. Not Il Principe's finest outing of the season.
Subs:
Vieira: 5 – Playing his final game before becoming available for pre-contract agreements elsewhere, he failed to have a great impact after his early introduction due to Muntari's injury.
Balotelli: NA – Late introduction for Eto'o.
Materazzi: NA – Thrown on for extra defensive cover in the final stages.
LAZIO
Muslera: 5.5 – fumbled Motta's speculative effort and parried back into danger to allow Eto'o to open the scoring.
Siviglia: 5.5 – Never really defended with any real authority and could have been exposed had Inter shown more threat down the flanks.
Stendardo: 6 – Defended stoutly but was guilty of showing a lack of patience at times when giving Inter cheap free-kicks.
Radu: 6.5 – Largely won the battle he was having with Milito in the second half, though some referees may have given a penalty against him in the first when he clashed with Maicon.
Lichtsteiner: 6 – Impressive as ever at the back, but failed to cause the damage going forward that Davide Ballardini might have hoped.
Baronio: 6 – Tidy, as usual, but his style of play dictates that his good passing game can often be wasted around the half-way line rather than penetrating the opposition back-line.
Kolarov: 7 – Lazio's biggest threat. Has a sweet left foot which could have caused Inter more trouble on another night. It may be a foot which will earn the Biancocelesti big bucks in January-.
Del Nero: 6.5 – One of the few players to fulfill his role both defensively and in attack during the game. Pushed Maicon back for long spells in the first half.
Mauri: 5 – Should have been providing the main link between the midfield and Rocchi but barely got himself into positions to get on the ball.
Meghni: 6 – Caused headaches without causing real trouble. Showed some very good touches, but very rarely did they look like really unlocking the Inter back-line.
Rocchi: 5.5 – Looked a bit lost without a strike partner. Often ran himself into cul-de-sacs and couldn't link with arriving midfielders efficiently as a result.
Subs:
Cruz: NA – Came on to a fantastic reception from the Inter fans, but that was about his only impact as Lazio resorted to launching high balls late on.
Makinwa: NA – Late substitute appearance brought little change from the Inter defence.
Firmani: NA –. No impact after late introduction.
