Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes Alex Manninger will fill his gloves with aplomb as he gives an update on his recovery from knee surgery.

The Italian international is unlikely to be back until mid-January, but has full confidence the team can regrasp the nettle and climb back up from their recent slide.

"The operation to the meniscus went well and I have started the cures. As per the original programme, I will miss a few games and spend the next month recovering fully and getting back to my best for when I return," he told his official website.

"I am sorry I cannot give my contributions to the team as there were games I wanted to play in especially against Parma and Milan.

"In any case, I will be supporting the team. Manninger has shown he is an excellent goalkeeper and I am sure he will underline that in my absence."
