Former Roma Coach Carlo Mazzone Calls For Video Technology In Serie A

Mazzone believes replays will be salutary to all on the pitch as he calls for a fairer game...

Carlo Mazzone - Brescia (Grazia Neri)
Former Roma coach Carlo Mazzone has urged Italian Calcio authorities to consider experimenting with video technology, claiming it will bring an end to all the refereering drama.

Mazzone believes having the technology will be benificial when dealing with controversial decisions in light of a number of errors this term.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis recently hit out at referees, claiming mistakes happen too often and some are regularly repeated. His concern came after Fabio Quagliarella was denied a clear penalty against Parma two weeks ago.

"I think everyone needs to reach a consensus on this aspect," the Mazzone told Napolimagazine.com.

The Italian feels the pace of the game is too quick for the men in black, making it hard to see things clearly.

"I don't think one referee and his two assistants can be enough to cover the whole pitch as the modern game is too fast," he added.

"As a result, we either accept referee mistakes in good faith, or we use replays on the pitches. I think a three year experiment will work well. Then if the technology fails to convince we can go back [to the current system]."
