Walter Gargano To Sign New Napoli Contract - Agent

The Uruguayan will get his long-awaited reward, but the representative insisted the future of Lazio outcast Ledesma is still up in the air.

The representative of Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano has revealed that the 25-year-old will soon put pen to paper on a new contract.

“I have met with [Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis and [sporting director Riccardo] Bigon and we discussed Gargano’s renewal,” agent Vincenzo D’Ippolito told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“The President wants to reward Walter and that’s good news. We will try and wrap things up before Christmas.”

The former Danubio man had long been hoping to get an improved deal as his current salary of around €450,000 per season does not reflect his status as an indispensable piece in coach Walter Mazzarri’s jigsaw puzzle.

D’Ippolito also represents the interests of Lazio ‘dissident’ Cristian Ledesma who has been frozen out of the squad after refusing the terms of a new deal.

And press reports have recently suggested that Napoli are set to propose a January swap deal involving Luca Cigarini to lure Ledesma to the San Paolo.

“Everything is stalled at the moment,” explained the agent.

“Cristian has not played for four months. Many clubs are after him and Napoli are obviously among them.”
