The More Determined Team Will Win The Derby Della Capitale - Roma Coach Claudio Ranieri
The Giallorossi tactician insists that the derby will not be an easy game despite Lazio's current struggles...
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri is not getting carried away ahead of Sunday's derby della Capitale against Lazio, who have not won in the league since August.
Ranieri believes that both teams' form coming into the match will count for little, and the team that shows more determination in the derby will emerge with the bragging rights and the three points.
"Certainly the Romans will feel it more," he explained to Il Corriere dello Sport, referring to himself, Francesco Totti and Daniele De Rossi.
"But I don't think that this is an advantage. The important thing will be to have the right determination and concentration on what we must do. The players are feeling good, they are confident, they know the stakes and they want to play a great game.
"It's an important game for us Romans. Whoever has more determination will win the derby. This will be what makes the difference. It won't be an easy game, but neither will it be a turning point - this comes later. We must go one game at a time. We know that we must fight until the end of the season."
The former Juventus trainer is also wary of a wounded Lazio side, and believes it is only a matter of time before they return to winning ways. However, he added that he hopes their change of fortunes is not imminent.
"They're a very determined side, who play with the bit between their teeth. They will battle from the first until the last minute. I don't think they are in a crisis - we simply have more victories and they have more draws. Their defence is a lot more watertight than ours.
"They are just going through a bad moment. The law of averages says that they will turn it around sooner or later, but we are hoping that it's later rather than sooner."
